Buying a House.

Wayde and I are looking for houses. At first, Wayde wasn’t too sure about the idea and wasn’t as into it as I was, but now I think he’s just as excited. I figure we need to get one because we should start building equity in something and it would be nice to have our own place.

It’ll be kind of tough to leave the co-op, but on the other hand there are some things I won’t miss. If we move into a house, it will probably be in this area, so we’ll keep the few friends we have here and be without the annoyances of actually living here. Best of both worlds.

The politics of living in the co-op suck. If you are the kind of person that never volunteers for anything, everyone leaves you alone and might opt to talk about you behind your back, but more likely will just ignore you. If you’re the kind of person that volunteers for things, then you’re more likely to be talked about — someone is going to have a problem with you. So, you can’t win. You volunteer and someone gets pissed because you couldn’t help them out on X Event or whatever. We do have lives but we also give whatever time we can to help out. It’s retarded.

We moved here to be in a community. Make friends. Too often you move to a new neighborhood and don’t know your neighbors. We’ve lived here for about 2 years and have one pair of friends we hang out with regularly. Everyone else is the kind of friend you say “hi” to once in a while, or maybe chat as you’re out for a walk. And then there’s Carrie, but that’s a whole different story — I just have to make sure she doesn’t walk all over me. She’s got a very, um, forceful personality. I’m the opposite.

Back on topic… We’ve been looking at houses in the area for about 3 weeks or so now. We’re going to go take a look at one tomorrow. It meets all of our criteria, but the one thing it’s somewhat lacking is that it’s as far out as we’d possibly want to live. But, if it’s nice enough, we’ll go for it. We want a big (finished) rec room, 3 bedrooms, and two bathrooms. We also want at least one other room for our computer room if the rec room isn’t big enough to hold both the home theater and our desks, a living room and an average size dining room too.

We had no power.

Our power went out just after 4pm yesterday and at first I thought it was just a small thing, it turns out I was wrong. We were in the middle of a enormous power outage across Ontario, New York, Michigan, Ohio, and other states.

It was actually pretty cool because it meant that no one had a reason to stay indoors. The entire co-op was outside barbequeing, drinking, socializing. Someone even broke out a guitar sometime during the evening and there was singing.

A rarity in the city, we were actually able to see the stars, and a LOT of them. I would’ve been out to catch a glimpse of Mars, but since there was no light from the city, there were many more stars to see. A neighbor even pointed out the Andromeda galaxy to me with his binoculars — that was awesome!

I broke out a battery operated radio sometime during the evening to try to find out what was going on, but I heard conflicting reports about the source of the blackout (and even now no one really knows) and that the US and Canada were exchanging blame.

Bruce and I slept in the basement (me on the couch, B in his Pack N Play) since the upstairs is so friggin’ hot and Wayde slept on the futon. I couldn’t sleep too well, but that was to be expected. I woke up at 5am when the power came back on, since everything switched on at the same time.

Here’s a pic of a dude in Toronto that started directing traffic during the power outage:

Fitness assessment

I’m participating in a music trade and it was my turn to compile a CD. I put it up a few days ago, I guess we’ll see how everyone likes it (or not). I needed a new ass-kickin’ CD so that’s what I made, lots of upbeat ass-kickin’ songs. Stuff to get you mooovin’. So far, some people seem to like it, so that’s good. :)

I did the SAHM (that’s Stay At Home Mom) thing today. I went berzerk on the kitchen and totally uncluttered and cleaned it. It looks awesome. I’ve never been so proud of housework. Heh. I also somewhat did the living room, but not completely. Sheesh. I’m such a mom. See what having kids will do to ya?

I play hockey tomorrow night, YAY! I’ll be playing with the Guelph guys again, so it’ll be fun. They all think I kick ass. :D That’s so cool. Currently the afternoon shinny I go to is cancelled until the beginning of August. So, until August 8th, I don’t have much hockey to play unless I’m invited to play somewhere.

I went to the gym today and had my fitness assessment. It’s not fair to ask a woman that just had a baby 3 months ago to go through a fitness assessment, but I did okay. I was off-the-chart above average on a few of the items, and below or average on the rest. I did crappy on body fat percentage, flexibility, and cardio, but did totally awesome on the wall-sit (2 minutes +). push ups (35) and sit ups (63 in one minute). I could have done more push ups but they were the “girly style” and I stopped at 35 because 25 was the upper limit of above average anyway. I’ve never done those kind of push ups, I always do the “male” kind. :) And as for sit-ups, I probably coulda pushed it harder, but did good anyway. I was pretty surprised at how low my flexibility was, but then again, I did yoga yesterday and I’m probably kinda tight from doing that. I’ll still work on flexibility — it’s one of my goals anyway. And as for body fat and cardio…well, what can I say. I’ve still got 5 pounds of pregnancy weight to lose and I have only just started getting back in to exercising.

So. Tomorrow I’m going to the gym to do their Pilates class, then playing hockey tomorrow night, going to the gym Saturday morning to do some cardio and/or weights, depending on how I feel. I’m stilll really sore from doing a full upper body workout two days ago.

I’ll be fit by October, you watch…just in time for hockey season!

Weight loss.

I hit a milestone! I can now fit in my smallest preggo jeans — the ones I bought when I was just starting to get too big for my regular jeans — they’re just a size bigger than I normally wear. Woohoo! Only 7 pounds to go to get back to my pre-preg weight, and then I want to try for another 5.

I’m so excited!

When I start playing hockey again, I bet it’ll just melt away. :)

Quick, post!

Okay, I’ve got a few minutes to post (finally!) while the Nipple Demon is sleeping. I better hurry before he wakes up!

Unfortunately, now that the Wings and the Leafs are out of the playoffs, I don’t seem to have much interest in watching any playoff games. I must not be a true hockey fan. But, damn, the games are BORING! Especially the Ottawa/Philly games. Low-scoring neutral-zone play. Yuck. I hate Ottawa with a passion so I have to root for Philly (sorry, Whistler) but I think the Sens are gonna win anyway. Dammit.

I got a funny .jpg in my e-mail today and I was going to post it, but I deleted it. (Mommy-brain is starting to set in, I think!) It was a pic of Cujo skating around a rink holding up a set of golf clubs (as opposed to the Cup) — hahaha! Hm, maybe you have to see it to appreciate it.

I think spring may finally be arriving! It has been rainy and somewhat cool here lately with the temperature hovering in the late teens (60’s F). I took Bruce on a little walk today just to get out of the house for a bit. But, on the downside, that also means there’s lots of mud and guess who decided he’d get caked in it? Yep, my dog Porter. Little rat. Oh well, he’s gonna get hosed off! This also means that warmer days are coming! Yay!

If only I could shed these pregnancy pounds before I break out the shorts (that don’t fit me right now!) for summer. More walks are in order! And in another week, I can start going back to the gym, yay!

I have lots to do to this blog, but no time. I want to reinstate the Hockey Skins, but that is going to take time and troubleshooting. It may even mean no more collapsing comments. But the Hockey Skins are way cooler than collapsing comments, no?

The haps.

Baby Bruce is here!!

Most updates will be taking place on his site, since I have little time to do anything else these days. He’s feeding like a madman — he’s gonna grow up to be a great hockey player! :)

Who’s ready for the playoffs? GO LEAFS!

Oh, and Wayde has some pics of Bruce in his Leafs gear up in his gallery.

Here are the quick stats:

Name: Bruce Wayne
Date: April 4, 2003
Time: 2:02am
Weight: 7 lbs 14 1/2 oz
Length: 21 inches

He was delivered by c-section after 18 hours of labor (full birth story on his site), but we are home and doing well now.

And you can bet your ASS I’m going to be back on the ice as soon as I’m healed!!!

My dog is a traitor.

Porter gets a nice little walk every weekday afternoon by two of our local neighborhood kids. They’re brothers (twins) and they share the payment. Porter likes it because he gets to get out of the house for a little bit during the day and he loves kids. Well, they asked if Porter could stay at their house overnight yesterday (how cute!) so he has been with them since yesterday morning. One of the boys came over just a little while ago to see if Porter had any toys they could use to play with him…and Porter didn’t want to come in! He was visibly trying to avoid looking at the front door. Little traitor. He didn’t want to see his Angela! :(

I don’t blame him though. He is probably getting lots more attention there than he would here because he has two boys to play with, rather than sitting at my feet while I type away at the computer or watch TV. I hope that it just means he’ll really get along with the baby and they’ll be buddies. It still hurts my feelings, though.

Today is my last day of work! I’ll have to make sure I remember to bring home the GoalieCam and set it up here. I have most of my stuff from work that I’ll need here, I’ve brought a little bit home for the last two days. It’s amazing how much you collect when you don’t realize it.

Random stuff.

If you haven’t checked out Wayde’s World News lately, you should. Not only does it have a slick new look, but today’s article is pretty damn funny.

My posts are few and far between now. I don’t know why, really, I want to post but I have nothing interesting to say. Nothing non-baby related anyway. ;)

I miss hockey — it gave me something other than work to talk about. Work has been stressful lately, so I don’t want to think about that right now.

Oh, I dreamt about hockey players recently. Night before last, actually. Darcy Tucker, Shayne Corson, and Patrick Roy were all in my dream. It was strange, I tell ya. I could see their faces as clear as day in my dream, and of course they were wearing their Leaf jerseys. For some reason I was living in military housing (with Wayde) and had to share a house with Patrick Roy. I was disgusted at first (I don’t like him!) but then the idea of getting daily tips from a pro appealed to me. I’m not sure what role Shayne and Darcy played in my dream, but I remember talking to Darcy. Then, someone came to my door and was asking about joining a hockey league, but he (not sure who he was) recognized me as being “that high-level goalie” and thought that he couldn’t join the league because he’s not good.

Wow, I had no idea I thought of myself that way. :)

Um.

I’m starting to wonder why I got him X-Box live. Do you think I’ll ever see him again?
