Archives are back, and I’m happy!

It took me the better part of a day, and I will have to pay for it by working into the night, but it’s done. With Google cache and the WayBack Machine, I’ve been able to get most of my archived posts back, and then some. I’m sure I’m still missing a few entries here and there, but I was able to go all the way back to my very first post. It was actually a little surreal taking a little trip backwards in time. Kind of like watching the last 7 years of my life in rewind.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Randall of BigWhiteGuy in Hong Kong for being the one to get me started in blogging. I don’t think he even said anything to encourage it, but reading his blog and interacting with him after I moved to Canada made me feel like there was more I could do than sit and wait for my permanent residence. He also introduced me to Wide Mouth Mason.

Slowly, but surely

I’ve managed to get back to my old design…mostly. I’m still working on a few tweaks, but it’s good enough for now. I couldn’t use my old Wordpress template (”Barum”, I think, with modifications) because too many changes have been made to Wordpress since I last used it. It was about time I upgraded anyway. This time I’m just using one of the default templates, and of course K2. There seem to be some inconsistencies between the CSS and the classes the template is using, so I’m trying to correct those issues.

I also found most of my old posts via the Way Back Machine (thanks to Troy, for the reminder!) and eventually I’ll get them back into the blog. Not that anyone but me cares, but you know, it’s the sentimental value.

Big changes coming!

Yes, it has been a year of changes for me, and still more to come. More than a year of changes, actually. Back in January I posted about my not-so-good 2006. As most of us know, most change ends up being for the better, and my last year or so is no exception.

I promise to post a huge all-telling update soon, but first I’m switching hosts. I’m heading over to Pair Networks – I’m sick and tired of my email and website being intermittently available.

Sidebar fixed in IE6.

Once I actually made the time to look at the CSS file, it was a super-easy fix. The CSS file had a hack to accommodate IE and the percentage for the sidebar width was slightly off.

Yay! I fixed my site!

After many months of being in a broken state (mostly due to my host incorrectly canceling my account), my site is operational again. It was throwing 404 errors on all internal links, and could have easily been fixed by updating my .htaccess file…but no, I had to go and do a complete re-install and import my old database before I figured that out.

It’s alive!

Well folks, I’m back.

I know. You were waiting so patiently I didn’t even know you were waiting…right?

I’m liking WordPress so far. I had installed it once before, back when it was v1.0 or v1.2, and I was impressed. Good ol’ pMachine switched to ExpressionEngine, which was a little too powerful for me. I currently still have pMachine installed and running, but I have already downloaded my site into static format and will be replacing what’s in the /blog directory with the static content. Or maybe I’ll just leave it the way it is. WordPress apparently has an “export to HTML” feature, so that’s cool.

I’m going to be changing the design, so if you stop by and things look funky, that’s why. Of course, you could always just use the RSS feed and you’d probably never even notice.

I love RSS.

Wow, I just checked out the HTML version of what I just wrote, since I’m using the WYSIWYG, and I can’t believe it! No extra code in it. Frickin’ amazing.

It seems my site has been up and down a few times over the last few days. I’m surprised I’ve even noticed considering the lack of attention I’ve been paying to it.

I’m trying to fit it into my schedule, despite the business of the holidays coming up. All of my shopping is done (woot!)…er, except for a couple of presents for some unexpected gift-givers this year. Those should be easy though.

I’m now using gaim for my instant messaging. I had to (yeah had) start using the AIM service to chat with some friends, and that means I now have user IDs on all the major chat thingies. AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo. Gaim is great, and it’s free. I’m all for that. I almost shelled out the bucks for Trillian, but I’m glad I didn’t because gaim is cool.
